If a Family name has been filled in on the profile of the constituent, the Family field on the gift tab will already be filled in with that information. You can change it to "Select Family" if you don't wish any value to be in this field for this transaction.

The Family field is an old field that was used prior to the Households feature being available. It is generally not used and only maintained for historical information purposes.
